AI so far has been an epic fail. At first everybody including me thought that it was going to be the end of making money online as we knew it. The internet would soon be filled with junk articles, and this would lead to nobody making money from anything written ever again. Or, massive corporations would take over everything, and inequality would skyrocket as a few people would take over control of all of the internet’s traffic. Things didn’t really go that way. ChatGPT can write some good articles, but AI kind of sucks. It’s basically good for putting information together, and proofreading. You still need to check the data given by ChatGPT, because it still makes mistakes. You also still need to spend a decent bit of time structuring your articles. You still need to prompt the system.
ChatGPT and other AI LLMs also aren’t profitable yet. These systems cost a lot of money to maintain and the bubble will soon burst in some way. This is why if you check the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ website, you will see that writing is still a lucrative job, and that writing positions are projected to grow in number over the next decade.
That being said, we’re fast approaching a point at which AI will take over the world of writing articles. AI can already be used to create generic content. Want to create a list of the 10 bestselling concerts of 2024? ChatGPT can do it. If you find some way to connect WordPress and ChatGPT, you can systematize the creation of hundreds of thousands of articles. Whether or not those articles are considered helpful is up to Google, but it’s already very possible to produce them.
AI is only going to get better. The progress might be quick, or it might be slow, but it’s going to happen. You have absolutely no choice but to accept this fact as a blogger, writer, and businessperson. This means that our job over the next decade or two is to answer two questions:
“Where will the spaces for authentic, human writing be?”
“How can I leverage AI and make it write for me?”
We all want to write real stuff, but there’s no point in letting a good tool go to waste. AI can already write basic descriptions and product reviews. It’ll be able to do If we can make money with AI, we should.
Being able to sell our real writing is also important. Right now, it’s still possible to make a living blogging about real stuff. We don’t need to write content with AI. But it still takes more time to get traction for a blog than it did in 2014. Soon, the people using AI are going to be outcompeting the rest of us wherever they can. We all need to be on the lookout for AI and how it can be integrated with WordPress blogs.
It’s already possible to start an AI blog with WordPress. I saw a YouTube video of it being done a few days ago. The blog looked pretty good, and it seemed like a veritable content factory. Those of us who write can content ourselves with the fact that the content might be subpar and rank lower than well written content, but that’s only for now. AI is here to stay.
