How To Work for No Pay

If you’re getting good at something, you’re probably going to be doing it for free. Not only that, but you’re also probably going to have to do it for free for a while. Long enough to get more skilled than the average person and get the attention of business owners and company men. It takes a lot to break into an industry. You need to have a good strategy while knowing what you’re doing. It takes a lot of patience to work for free. But if you can do it in today’s age, you’ll find yourself having a lot of power.

Find a patron

Oftentimes if you want to be good at something, you’re going to need to spend a few years being poor. The government knows this. This is why they invented student loans. If you want to learn how to do something, find a friend or family to stay with. Work hard and don’t make false promises. This is harder to do in your youth than you think.

When you get a job, put your head down and save money

If you have a massive nest egg, you’re going to be able to use your skills to earn a good income. This is actually when the real work begins. You want to save and keep your money.

Accept looking like a loser

There’s nothing wrong with looking like a bit of a loser if you’re building towards something. Rome wasn’t built in a day. If you look like a loser now, things will likely change if you do and put in the work. All this being said, you need to do the work in every facet of life in order to succeed.

Embrace positive self-talk

If you learn to speak to yourself positively, working for free won’t be so bad. You’ll be happy with every single milestone. This is what will keep going when working for free gets tough, which it will.

Be brutally honest with yourself

The more honest you are with yourself, the better. If you can’t be honest with yourself, the previous section becomes dangerous. You need to be honest with yourself, so that you know where your life is going well and on which fronts you need to change. Brutal honesty is the key to working for free. As soon as you stop making progress, it’s time to stop.

Embrace any addictions that cause you to work harder

Now is not the time to be slacking off. Any time you spend working for free is burn time. You had better be learning a skill or building equity. But you should embrace whatever addictions cause you to produce. When working for free, times are going to get hard. Embracing your addictions allows you to blast through the pain.

Try to build equity

The easiest way to build equity in today’s age is to join a social media platform, and to start building a following. The bigger your following, the more successful you’re going to be at selling any product. Demand is low right now, but if you can push through you should eventually be able to start seeing conversions. Regardless, if you’re working for free, try to build equity, even if you aren’t creating content.

Don’t be afraid of working for free. Sometimes you need to put in a crap ton of work just to get anywhere and learn anything. When you put in that work, you’ll find yourself easily able to get into the top 10% of earner in your country, I think. It’s hard and painful, but if you can do it, you should either have a skill, equity, or a plan for building equity. This puts you ahead of the vast majority of people, as there is little to no competition during today’s era. You just need to bite the bullet and be able to work without seeing results for a bit. It’s psychologically challenging but worthwhile.
