We live in an era where the quality of one’s decision making is crucial to one’s success. If you want to live a good life and succeed, you should learn to become a good decision maker. I almost failed at this task as a young person. I made some crazy decisions, that could have created health problems. Thankfully I’m unscathed, and old enough
Everyone’s in the system
Nowadays, you can look everyone up. It’s easy to find what people are up to. Content creation is pretty much the only way to be truly anonymous. Perhaps one day there will be some anonymous form of ecommerce fulfillment. We’re far away from that day. Right now, your decisions matter because if you make decisions that are impactful enough, you’ll leave a permanent positive or negative mark.
Bad behavior is caught more frequently
This is a function of technology. The long time goes on, the harder it is to get away with doing bad stuff. If you behave badly, prepare to be caught. It’s really just a matter of time. Most of the time, nothing happens to people because people can’t be bothered. But you don’t want to get caught up or be involved in anything if you can avoid it.
Our fertility windows haven’t changed much
If you plan on having kids, this matters a lot. Your fertility window is the same as it was when people lived to the age of 50. This means that it’s hard to plan properly for a family, especially if you’re a woman. You have to get dating right, while actually making something of yourself if you want to be safe.
Life expectancy has increased
This means that there are more people around to remember what good or bad decisions were made. It also means we live longer with the consequences of our mistakes. Our good decisions also begin to compound earlier. If you do things right, you can establish a life that is very long and happy at a fairly young age.
We underestimate the impact of life expectancy increasing
Life expectancy increasing often means stopping premature deaths. It doesn’t involve lengthening life expectancy at the high end yet, because we don’t know how to reverse aging. So, this means that there are way more children making it to the age of 30 as there were even 20 years ago. This means that decisions literally become more impactful as time goes on, as the affect an ever-expanding group of people, that stays alive for longer and longer.
Young people don’t realize how fast quality of life is improving
10 years from now, the world will be unrecognizable. 20 years from now, you won’t be able to believe what the world looks like. Life expectancy will be longer, and people will be wealthier. The very nature of work will likely change, as more and more countries adopt the internet.
Learn to make good decisions. Do it now and do it before you make some really bad ones. I’ve been able to avoid the super life changing stuff, but only just barely. I’m incredibly lucky and was a naturally docile young person. But people younger than me don’t have the privilege of making terrible decisions. The consequences they’ll suffer will be far greater than what previous generations did.
Thanks for paying attention.
