You probably don’t need to be told to move to the city. You probably are already living in one. But if you’re a young man who has fled, or who isn’t living in a major city, I wrote this article for you. If you aren’t in a major city when you’re young, you’re missing out. You’re making it harder for yourself to earn money and hobbling your future in every way possible. Having lived in 3 major cities across 3 countries over course of my life, I’m sure of this. So, here’s why you should be looking to live in a metro area as a man under 30.
You will work
You won’t have a choice. Urban areas are expensive. In order to survive or have any fun at all, you’re going to need to work. This won’t feel like a lot of fun, but it’s better than the alternatives. The alternatives are to chase girls and waste time. The former will have diminishing ROI if you’re an average looking broke young guy, the latter is straight up dangerous. Waste time hanging out with the wrong people and you’ll end up in jail. The general consensus is that being a young man sucks, and it sucks as rite of passage. Moving to a major city in order to make your money is one of the best rites of passage. You’re choosing the pain of financial development. In an ideal world, we would all be able to spend less time chasing money, but in the absence of utopia, struggling in a major city is the best we can ask for.
You will have a fairly high net worth
If you’re able to keep pace with ambitious people in major cities, you’ll be able to find a good amount of success. It almost doesn’t matter which city you’re talking about. Cities are more expensive. If you’re upper middle class in a major city, you’re probably pushing into the “wealthy” range in the countryside. This means that oftentimes, simply living in a city and keeping up is a good financial plan.
You will interact with women
This is key in a world where lifespans are long and young people are poor. The reality is that most countries have some kind of pension system. This means that the wealthiest people are going to be over 75, especially as time goes on. I personally plan on working until I’m 75 and beginning to date seriously when I turn 28. Being in an urban area has gotten me vital exposure to women. If I had moved to a rural or suburban area, I would have turned into a complete incel. The last four years of my life would have been solely spent writing and creating internet content. I would have gone completely crazy.
You will meet important and powerful people
I don’t care much about being important or powerful. But important and powerful people have tons of knowledge and wisdom to offer. Watching them move through life should inspire you. If you’re like me, you can try and see how they transfer their decision-making skills to areas of life besides business and career.
If you’re smart, you’ll have the skills and money required to move
That’s if you’re smart. Most people aren’t smart, and they aren’t able to save. We’ll see how just how smart I am over next few years, I might do well, or I might not. But when it comes to having the skills and money required to move, I’m getting close. I know how to build websites. I’m building my business and putting cash in the safe.
You will be able to find freedom if you can get to a $60k USD net worth
And this is by the time you’re in your 40s, in today’s dollars. If you are young (under 25), in a major city, and aim to reach that level of wealth, there is probably some beach from which you can start a business and on which you can live. The reason for this is that the world’s cheapest places are developing fast. This means cheap housing and energy for those looking to move. Just make sure that you actually save, and that you move to a place where you have a shot at earning citizenship and gaining rights.
If you’re from a wealthy country, the world is your oyster
Your opportunities are incredibly vast. Wealthy countries are great for men who are willing to make money in one place for a while and move. The average American man with a well-executed plan can turn his liquid assets into a great overseas life, with the proper help. The same is likely also true for the average Brit and the average Canadian. If you can move from a country that’s declining, to one that’s on the rise, you’re going to experience a dramatic increase in quality of life.
If you’re a young man trying to build a beautiful life outside of the city, I would suggest running directly to a big city without passing go or collecting $200. It’ll be hard work, but there’ll be plenty of loot for you at the end. You’ll be able to create a beautiful life for yourself if you can deploy that loot correctly. The first step is moving to the right location.
