Everything In Life Is Genetics: Free Will Is an Illusion

If you believe in free will, think again. As far as I’m concerned, it’s fairly obvious that free will is a myth. If you look at the basic elements of the life, there’s simply no way that we’re able to create every aspect of our life from scratch. And even when it comes to our decision making, we don’t have much freedom either. Let me explain my thinking.

Did you choose your height?

Or your weight? Or the way you look? Or the way your voice sounds? The fact of the matter is that there are so many things in life that are outside of your control. They limit or expand your prospects regardless of whether you have free will or not.

We feel as though we have free will, but what determines how we feel?

Some people are extremely resilient and can survive almost anything. They work their butts off, and don’t fall victim to any vices or life traps. Other people crack under slight pressure. Who decides to be the person who cracks? Nobody. Free will is absolutely an illusion.

Genetics determine our programming

We already know that DNA stores data in its biological form. This means that genetics are literally the stuff of life, when it comes to information. Genetics might not determine 100% of our life experiences, but I’m confident that in conjunction with the randomness of life, they impact the way we go about interacting with the world to the point that free will is pretty much non existent. It’s crazy when you think about it.

Understanding that free will is an illusion gives us more power

This way, we can go about studying the universe more quickly. The more we know about our genetics, the more we know about the world around us. If there is a matrix, we might be able to break through one day.

What to do about it?

You can’t give up or start making bad decisions as a result of free will being an illusion. You just can’t. The thing about free will being an illusion is that this is not how we experience life. Day to day we make decisions, but we know everything is a result of our genetic code. How we process and experience the world was foretold, but what actually happens is unpredictable. If you exit the matrix, you’re likely exiting to something really boring or really catastrophic. The best thing to do is play the game.

What happens if we fix the human genome?

Wouldn’t it be insane to be able to make it so that humans were less sick, looked better, and behaved better? We’re pretty much on our way with the way the human genome is being edited on a daily basis. If we can get to the point where we can fix people who are alive, things will start to get really interesting.

Free will is definitely an illusion. But life is still beautiful, and there are still a lot of things that you can achieve on this plane of existence. Think about it rationally. If we are really living in a matrix, it’s likely that whatever is happening on the outside is either super boring, or super catastrophic. So, the best we can do is try to understand the world around us more and more. I’ve gotten into watching videos about physics recently. I’m pretty sure that as AI approaches, knowledge is one of the only things that will save us in this economy. That and hard work. Because in a world with no free will, we have no choice but to work hard.

Thanks for paying attention.
