We live in some difficult, tumultuous, and chaotic times. It feels like no matter how safely and carefully we try to live, there is another pitfall ahead. But you can thrive in chaos. You just need to have a good head on your shoulders, put effort into your life, and follow the tips in this post.
Realize the world is becoming better with each passing day
Sure, there are a few pockets of poverty and misery. Wealth is skewed away from young people and towards the elderly. So it’s hard to get started. Really hard in poorer countries. But once you get the ball rolling, things get easy. Especially if you put your head down and work. 5 years ago, minimum wage was $40 per week in my home country. Now it’s $100. People complain, but they complain from the comfort of small apartments rather than huts nowadays. Which brings me to my second point.
Realize that people complain, no matter what
If things are going well, people complain. If they are going poorly, people complain. Complaining is a constant of life. It doesn’t mean the sky is falling or the world is ending or if everyone wins the lottery. People always finds something to moan about. Block them out and focus on your own peace and sanity.
Have a long term plan
if you have a long term plan, you are going to always know what to do each day. If you end up working for yourself, you know how to react to any problems. You will have ideas on how to make money and get ahead, even if there is nothinng structured to do. For the best results when it comes to long term planning, you’re going to want to look about 10 or 15 years to the future. If you can make baby steps on a 10 or 15 year plan, the chaos arounf you won’t be daunting. You’ll know you’re heading in the right direction.
Set limits to your spending
Me personally, I won’t ever be spending more than $50,000 USD per year, and that’s if I end up becoming rich by my country’s standards, like a high net worth individual. I don’t know if I want to become a high net worth individual. I know it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Right now, I’m just getting the ball rolling. $2,000/ month is fine for me. Because of this, it’s easy to get wealthy.
Realize that the better you do, the easier things get
This applies to every aspect of life. The more skilled you become and the more things you create, the easier your life becomes. You will have to take on more resonponsibilities, but your life becomes easier because you have the opportunity to “choose your hard”. Work really hard and build wealth in your 20s. This way, you’ll have a ton of control over your life and surroundings.
Aim to be in the top 1%
Think about it in the evolutionary sense. Generally speaking in the past, only a certain percentage of the population both survived and reproduced. Nowadays survival is easy, and it comes down to luck in the long term
Break your life into bite sized chunks
Focus on each year or two. Break those years into month long chunks. Execute. Progress will feel like a frog boiling. Before you know it, you’ll be an expert in your field.
Realize you are on the clock
Don’t overstress. But you do have a timeline to achieve everything you want. Life isn’t incredibly long, and things change quickly. If you don’t work at something, you’re likely going to find that life passes you by. Don’t take life too seriously, but realize that you have limited time to do the things you want.
Maintain your health
If you are unhealthy, chaos is going to turn into true suffering. Do your best to stay healthy.
Play it safe for what you want the most
If you want to avoid chaos, you need to minimize the risk of your life going awry. If you want to live in Colombia, figure out a way to do that. Don’t spend your whole life figuring out how to be an engineer in China to make money if the former is your goal. Play it safe and reverse engineer the life you want directly.
Out work everyone
This is the ultimate way of playing it safe. If you know how much work everyone else is doing, do more. Assuming you have average skills, you will perform better than average. Discipline is the big differentiator between people in life.
Chaos is a constant. Yet there are always people who manage to rise above. That can be you, provided you’re smart and level headed. Just think and plan long term, and you should be OK. Some people are unlucky. But the average person who puts an above average amount of effort into their lives can rest assure that they will achieve above average results.
Thanks for paying attention.
