Yes actually. The thing about apartments is that they are really, really expensive. If you get your hands on a good one, you feel lucky. Well, this year felt like a case of “the harder you work, the luckier you get on my end. I started putting my nose to the grindstone only a year before Generative AI took off, and right around when I started to feel like a monetizeable business was within reach, I began to look at apartments. What I found was a pleasant surprise.
Apartments in my area are going for cheap. 3 bedroom places seem to have gone down in price by between 5 and 20%. I live in a luxury area and it’s time for me to renew my lease. I chalk the decrease in prices to the job losses caused by AI, along with the amount of new constructions in my area.
AI is making things cheaper because there is less cash available to go around as a result of its implementation. Outsourcing plays an equal or larger role in this process. White collar work isn’t easily available nowadays. The pain that many people are experiencing as joblessness tends to result in other things getting cheaper. If you’re lucky, your regulators have been helping breath a sigh of relief over the last few years on the housing front. This is what’s making everything cheaper.
So basically, this is great news for those of us who feel as though we have bren working our asses off without seeing results. Hope is on the horizon and utopia is on the way. As things get cheaper and cheaper around the world, it will become easier and easier to have social mobility as well. People will work less, and you’ll be able to outperform most simply by creating. I’m realatively proud of the potential that such a world has, even though we haven’t executed on this vision as a species.
This is the real reason why everyone should be socially involved and do the right thing. We have the potential to create a world that is beautiful, peaceful, and pleasant to live in for everyone on the planet. It’s easy and right within reach. Unfortunately, pessimism is rampant and people are stupid. People are also greedy, self absorbed, and status obsessed. There are plenty of roadblocks and obstacles to the betterment of humanity, but it’s up to us good people to keep working hard at what we do, so that the world can slowly but surely become a better place.
What does this have to do with housing stock? Well, if you learn about technology and economics, you’ll realize that tech is deflationary. Meaning that globally speaking, stuff gets cheaper. Meaning that as long as you have open or semi-porous borders with the outside world, your country’s prices for goods and services should change in line with the global economic average. This means that life gets better over time, everywhere. If you work hard for the sake of capitalism, you will see rewards. I know I sound like fanatic saying this in the age of socialism, but it’s true. Capitalism works very well. It just works slowly. Have faith in yourself and have faith in the financial system.
Thanks for paying attention.
