Having a brand is the ultimate goal of all digital asset holders. If it isn’t, I’ve come to the conclusion that it should be. I was having a conversation with somebody about making money online, and they pointed out that different platforms can and will burn content creators, throttling their traffic in exchange for more money. This is definitely a concern for YouTubers, entry level independent bloggers, Medium partners and others earning money on a pay per view basis.
But once someone is established, I don’t see how traffic throttling can really affect one’s ability to make money online.
You see traffic goes somewhere. The bots haven’t completely taken over yet. People are still browsing the internet, and they need to be entertained. This means that even if your traffic is being throttled, people will eventually know about your content once you reach a certain threshold. At this point, people will be checking back in to see whether you’ve uploaded any content.
Whether you’re running an Instagram page, a website, or a YouTube channel, you want to get to a point where people are checking your page for new content. The only way to do this is with impactful content. In order for people to look you up, they need to be able to remember you.
Consistency helps people remember you. You might not know who SwagboyQ is, but you may or may not have seen him on TikTok. That’s because he was always uploading when the platform was booming.
Good content makes people stick around. If people aren’t interested by and/or addicted to the stuff you create, you’re not going to get repeat customers aka direct visitors.
So shoot for quality. Do what you’re most skilled at, with consistency, and treat each piece of work like it has value. Don’t worry too much about the upfront cost, especially if you’re writing. Words are timeless, so you’ll get traffic as long as you keep working. If you’re being real and actually interacting with other users, you’ll eventually develop a reputation and get the direct visitors you need.
Once you have direct visitors, the game changes. This means that people are now looking for you. This will always be because you provide a great service or are really worth listening to. You’re the go-to guy or woman in your industry. Unless the CIA or some major government really wants you to fail, you can’t lose. This is why Coca Cola spend millions on TV ads. This is why brands pay for banner ads, despite them having a low click through rate. This is also why I often write my articles from a first-person point of view, and why I bought a domain name for my blog. I want my blog to be memorable and have its own brand, even if it’s hosted on Medium.
So remember Rising Current and work hard.
Thanks for paying attention.
