If you’re a young man on his grind, especially a young aspiring entrepreneur or digital nomad, you might have come across a certain amount of doom and gloom content. This stuff is usually on YouTube, but it’s also often on TikTok, Instagram, and even Medium. Doom and gloom content is particularly destructive because it creeps up on you. You feel like you’re watching something intelligent, but over time your brain rots and you become a miserable, do-nothing person.
A lot of content is just designed to be background noise
People have realized that it’s easier to make slop than it is to come up with quality content. If they can’t make slop, they can make podcasts. This means that by clicking a few buttons or talking shit for a few hours, they can make money, so what’s the easiest thing to do? Complain for a few minutes and fill the air with your noise.
Negative headlines and tag lines lead to more clicks
This is the unfortunate reality of today’s world. If you have a sad, frustrating, or scary headline, you’re likely to make a bunch of money. Negative headlines sell, and they sell like hotcakes. Especially when the product is only people’s attention.
Doom and gloom content is meant to sympathize with the listener
This is why it gets so many people. It’s long form content that sympathizes with the listener, while making them feel like they’re doing something to change their situation. The “informative” nature of the content is what lulls people to sleep. The sympathetic nature of the content is what makes people feel good about what they’re doing.
Doom and gloom content is often disguised as news
This is how it catches us. Nowadays, there isn’t as much money in making informative content as their used to be. Going viral is what matters. Doom and gloom content that’s disguised as news is quick and easy to make. It pops up on your feed, hooks you in, and collects its ad revenue. Easy money for the creator, and you’re none the wiser.
Doom and gloom feels good for the content creator
A lot of people who create doom and gloom content make themselves feel better with the awful content that they create. Sometimes it’s because they like venting, other times it’s because they’re truly miserable people. Content creation is a grind, and a lot of people can feel as though they aren’t making it while they’re putting in their reps.
Doom and gloom content will poison your mind
Do you really want to go through life feeling as though all women hate you? Or worse, thinking that all the members of some ethnic group want to kill you and attack “your” women? This internet nonsense is really harmful. It can put you in fight or flight mode and make you feel as though the whole world is against you.
Grind in silence
Most noise is just that. Right now, we’re going through tough economic times. There are a crapload of distractions, and the world is not ready for all of the changes that are afoot. If you’re wasting time on doom and gloom content, you’re bound and slated to lose. Just work hard, stick with family, and avoid doom and gloom content.
Dead internet theory is starting to become true, in a way. It’s becoming harder and harder for a lot of creators to earn an income, and people are starting to quit content creation. The remaining content is often thin and depressing. This doesn’t mean that you need to fall victim to doom and gloom content. There’s nothing to learn from doom and gloom content. It only makes you feel worse. Buck the gen Z trend and avoid it at all costs.
Thanks for paying attention.
