If you have a business, it’s important that you don’t get led astray by the famous people in your niche. Celebrity business owners are everywhere. It doesn’t matter the profession. Someone is at least TikTok famous for doing it. You shouldn’t focus on these people as a business owner. Instead, focus on the people who are quietly earning similar amounts of money, without all the fanfare. Most people who are famous for being business owners or famous for being famous don’t have experiences that are relatable to you. Here’s why.
Incentives arent aligned
There is no incentive for a celebrity to sell you massive amounts of actionable information at a low cost. That is the end of the story. Influencers can have good courses, but a lot of people don’t care much when it comes to free content. If you’re an average fan, don’t follow your favorite celeb when it comes to business. Learn skills and vetted business models from professional instructors.
You are probably not lucky
It’s just not statistically very likely that you are significantly luckier than average. This doesn’t mean you can’t get lucky. Maybe one of your posts will go viral, and you’ll be able to build a $1M company without a ton of effort. Most of us are normal. This means that you probably won’t match the standout successes in your category. It means you will probably work your tail off to break into the top 10-0.1%. That’s if you want it badly enough.
Your average competitors will have more longevity/replicability
This is because they likely will have a decent method. To really understand whether you are looking at a business with more longevity, try to look at the “celebrity” business you are comparing it to, and try asking yourself which is more realistic. In the world of blogging, this means analyzing a blog’s topic and whether that topic is considered “serious”. If your blog solves problems, you can make money. Some blogs are in frivolous niches, and make money despite the odds. Others get a lot of views with few articles because the writters got into social media early. Those would be considered the celebrity businesses. Ed Latimore is good example of someone who I think of as a celebrity blogger. He has been getting a lot of traffic with relatively little contenr, and it is as a result of his social media presence.
Your average competitors will discourage you less
As you set about the hurculean task of making something of yourself, the last thing you need is a voice of doubt. If you spend time watching a celeb’s lifestyle, you’re going to find yourself incredibly depressed soon. Follow the people who didn’t get lucky, and expect to grind. This increases your chances of getting lucky anyways.
Your celebrity competitors may not contribute to society
You want to have a legacy. It depends on the business model, but many people who got rich quick are slippery. If your competitors aren’t beneficial to societt, you shouldn’t want to be them. Be a good person. Be a winner and leave the world a better place than you found it.
There are lots of busineses out there and many have made their owners rich. But some are less easy to copy than others. If something is the spotlight, it’s usually a nothingburger. Find you boring, lesser known competitors who are killing it rather than the big guys who may have been propelled by good fortune.
Thanks for psying attention.
