How The Internet Killed Ghetto Culture

The internet unfortunately didn’t totally kill ghetto culture. But it is killing it. Rap music still gets a lot of streams, but generally speaking it seems like the concept of being ignorant for its own sake. In the 2000s and 2010s, it was a different story. I remember Deisel had an ad campaign where posters with the slogan “be stupid” were slapped everywhere. I think that pretty much sums up the vibe of pop culture. Drugs, overly sexual TV and movies, weird and vulgar music. This media influenced the youth negatively. Every major city in the Western world has dealt with gangs, gun violence and drug use over the last three decades. The internet is destroying it. I think this is for the best.

What is ghetto culture?

For the purposes of this article, ghetto culture is any culture or way of life that encourages bad behavior and ignorance. The most commonly known and understood ghetto culture is black American trap culture. This stuff has been adapted all around the world to spread all sorts of negativity. Every country has their own spin on it, even if it’s not acknowledged. But it doesn’t have to be that. Ghetto culture is bad

How did the Internet kill ghetto culture? Three ways.

Accountability

People who commit crime nowadays are being held accountable though social media. The things that people post have a record. So, people get caught. This means that if you do something wrong, you know it’s more likely that you’ll get caught.

Public humiliation

If you do something really dumb, it gets reshared. This impacts how people behave in person because they’re worried about being filmed. Or even described in a negative light. Being publicly humiliated doesn’t look fun. Most people want to avoid it.

A proper explanation of consequences

You can now go on YouTube and watch tons of videos about what happens to people when they mess up. What losing your job is like. What it’s like being cut off by friends and family. What academic and criminal consequences feel like. Suddenly, acting out doesn’t seem so fun anymore. Everyone knows when people are living a fake life, and when people are experiencing serious consequences but putting on a brave face.

Also, entertainment doesn’t pay as much

Across the world, those making the most money now work in finance. Healthcare pays well too, but it’s not the Those who have the most

Higher quality of life leads to more moral thinking

If you’re a moral thinker, you won’t want to support ghetto nonsense. I recently saw a video discussing the rise of an 8-year-old rapper, who I won’t promote, or name drop here. The people enabling someone like that aren’t thinking morally. As society continues to improve, people will think more morally about things.

There are better things to do

And that’s all that it comes down to. The internet gave us all better things to do, and we should be grateful. Now is the era to be successful, get money, and move overseas. If you put in the work and pick the right country, you can live a great life.

Ghetto culture is destructive. It’s entertainment from a past era, one that had a lot less happiness and morality. If you’re from a major American city like I am, the loss of ghetto culture might be sad, even if you aren’t a participant. It’s not something to be sad about. The internet killed ghetto culture and made it easier for the overseas content creator to survive. Millions have benefited.

Thanks for paying attention.
