Think Carefully Before You Get Rich

If you have the skills to pay the bills, you might decide you want to take a stab at getting rich. It can seem tempting at first, but there are a lot of pitfalls. Most people want to be rich, but most people don’t think about the pitfalls of being rich. This article isn’t to dissuade anyone. I just think people should be aware of what they’re getting themselves into.

Being rich makes you a target

People want to steal your money. They really, really do. Don’t let them get into such a position. Being rich means isolating yourself from the rest of the world. You will have to live around other wealthy people, work around other wealthy people, and probably marry other wealthy people. This is because being rich around poor people is dangerous.

In order to get rich, you have to invest time

It’s going to take you a few years to get anywhere. Learning skills and starting businesses takes an immense amount of effort and time. You will everything while you work. This can be a tough pill for a lot of people to swallow, and many people find it hard to accept.

Being rich (probably) won’t get you laid

A lot of young men want to make money in order to help attract women. This can work…ish. Women like security, but money isn’t an automatic panty dropper. For getting laid, you’re probably better off getting in fantastic shape. Being rich will help with women once you get into the top 1-10% of assett holders depending on who you are and where you live. But after that, looking good and being a good person will probably get you facetime with more people.

Community has a unique vibe

There’s a lot to be said for having people around you. A lot of the wealthy live in isolation. Their children might not even want to be around them. This is really sad, and it’s hopefully something you don’t have to experience. Getting wealthy is good, but choosing community is better. This often means constraining yourself and living in a poorer country, or living in a wealthier country but prioritizing work-life balance. If you see an opportunity to do this without sacrificing your standard of living, you should do it. Don’t sacrifice community in order to make money. You’ll be sad in the long run.

Most businesses aren’t altruistic

Unless you are of Elon Musk level intelligence, your business is probably normal. It’s good to work for yourself, but don’t give up your life grinding to build a business that only enables you to take from the world. Take a load off, relax, and smell the roses. Just making money for your whole life is almost certainly bad for your spirit.

Your health will suffer

If you spend too much time working for no reason, you will almost certainly find your health going down the tubes. It doesn’t matter who you think you are. Odds are you aren’t a superhero. If you overwork yourself, your health will suffer. You aren’t a superhero. Your body needs to rest.

You probably will want to do other projects

Even if you enjoy whatever ended up making you rich, you’re probably going to want to do other projects at some point. We all get bored, and sometimes we’re in the mood for a change. Not being able to do other projects because you need to focus on your work is likely to be a real buzzkill for you as you’re in the process of getting rich. If you want some spending cash, just invest when you’re young, and/or figure out a way to turn one of your social hobbies into side hustles.

Your family won’t care

Beyond a certain point, your family is not going to know or care about your career. The only thing your family will know about or understand is the quality time you spent with them. They won’t care that you are rich or successful if it doesn’t benefit them.

You are on the clock

Money is not incredibly useful as you age. You can’t do a lot with it. This means that the older you get, the less value your money has to you. It only has value if you can give it to other people. This means that you have a success clock counting down constantly. You need to win fast if you want to get value out of your hard earned fortune. There is absolutely no point in starting life at age 65. It’s quite sad. Getting rich means you are on the clock. Accept it or get a regular job.

If you waste it, it’s hard to make back

This is the unfortunate reality of money. If you waste it, you will have to work really hard to get it back. This is because it will take a lot to match the lifestyle you were living when you blew the money in retirement. That’s why you lost your money in the first place. You’re going to need to know how to keep your money in the long run if you want to be rich. This is tough.

Life gets cheaper

Don’t get it twisted, life gets cheaper for most people around the world, due to technology. Do what it takes to eek out a living if you think you can make it. Being gainfully employed is awesome. There isn’t any stress as long as you can keep your job. Don’t take this fact for granted if all you want to do is impress people.

It won’t fill the void, people will just be jealous

Most people are pretty shortsighted. So they get jealous when your hard work pays off. In most people’s minds, they are the special, talented, and important ones. So showing them up won’t make you feel better. It’ll just attract negative attention. I said at the beginning of this article that being rich would make you a target. Welcome to the world.

Do you have the talent to get rich while you’re young?

If you don’t, you might end up wasting your whole career. Making money is hard as hell. If you try to get rich and don’t have any talent, you’re in for a world of hurt. You’re probably going to fall on your face, and you certainly won’t be rich if you don’t work very hard.

Being rich is fun, and maybe it’s worth the hard work when you’re done. But it takes a lot of sacrifice to get money out of the universe. Hopefully this article makes you think twice before chasing after vast sums.

Thanks for paying attention
