I’ve noticed that a lot of people, especially those over the age of 40, take a very strange view of online businesses, especially when they’re compared with brick and mortar operations and regular careers. If you tell most people that you’re in school for four years or have been working a low-end job in the natural sciences, they’ll understand why you don’t have much money. As a matter of fact, many of them will discourage you from being in a rush to get wealthy. “Good things take time.” But if you make money online, people expect the faucet to turn on immediately. If you aren’t making $100,000 per year from 15 YouTube videos, you might as well pack it in.
The truth of making money online is that it takes time and sacrifice. You’re competing with everyone on planet Earth. The average person makes about $13,000 USD per year, if GDP per capita is at all accurate. In reality it’s a lot less, because of taxes. This means that in order to make a living online it takes months or years to start earning a living.
So why do you expect to be making a living from ad revenue after making only 100 blog posts?
It isn’t really possible. Even if those blog posts brought in 100 views per month, you would only be bringing in 10,000 views per month total. Even if you’re bringing in 10,000 views per month, you’re not going to be making a ton of money. Do you expect advertisers to pay even $100 per 1,000 views? Unless you’re in Finance or Software reviews, get real.
So the answers to your problems as a blogger are really obvious. You need to write more. 100 blog posts is a side hustle… if you live in a 3rd world country. It’s possible to get the traffic you need from blogging, but you have to be willing to do the work.
The fact of the matter is that you can’t eat words. You can’t use them to build houses, and you can’t use them to build weapons. So if you expect to earn a living writing words, you’re going to need to attract a lot of attention and create a lot of value. This will usually take months or years of dedication. There’s no way around this, sorry. There are simply no shortcuts. So if you want to make a living from your blog, keep writing. You almost certainly haven’t written enough to know whether or not you’re successful.
