What The Sean “Diddy” Combs Lawsuits and Arrest Can Teach Us About Life

In mid-September of this year (2023), one of rap’s greatest icons fell from grace. Diddy was arrested on sex trafficking and racketeering charges. There’s no point in discussing the charges at length, here they are. The stuff Diddy’s accused of doing is crazy, for lack of a better world. There are dozens of victims, and hundreds who are being named in civil suits. The man was a monster, by all accounts. If even 1% of the allegations are true, then Diddy is a psychopath. But we can still learn a few things from his arrest. Sean Combs is a human after all, even if he didn’t always act like it.

Karma comes back for people

The truth has a way of coming out. If it doesn’t, it has a way of hurting (or helping) people. Don’t do crazy stuff to other people. It should go without saying, that drugging people, beating them, putting guns to them, and raping them is wrong. But the concept of karma is often lost on people. Karma isn’t that what goes around comes around. It’s that actions have consequences. A certain amount and type of energy being put out into the universe will result in a certain response. You don’t always know what that response may be. Karma isn’t about fairness, it’s about physics. I learned this from Aaron Clarey.

Money won’t buy you out of trouble (if you’re in enough trouble)

Sean Combs has all the money in the world to spend on lawyers. He’s still in a cell, and it’s because he raped too many people. It only took one accuser filing a civil suit to get the ball rolling. The law is the law, and certain crimes carry very steep penalties. Think very carefully about what you choose to do. If you’re trying to get rich in order to get a get out of jail free card, try again. There’s no point. In the long term, it’s going to get harder to bribe your way out of jail.

There are more “famous” people than ever before, and it matters less

Famous people were rare back when Diddy was committing his crimes. Nowadays there are so many random influencers, and while some of them are criminals, those that get caught go to jail. Additionally, even influencers who are “only” caught acting inappropriately are experiencing a lot of scrutiny and ridicule nowadays. Being famous won’t save you if you’re doing bad things. This applies to everything, not just rape. Think about it. The technology for catching people doing bad things is only set to improve. The right thing to do is to be ethical now.

Don’t worry about the superficial stuff if you want to be happy

You want to be making a certain amount of money, but you don’t need to be in the “1%”, let alone someone who earns 7 or 8 figures per year like Diddy. It might not seem like it if you’re poor, but there are fewer and fewer advantages to being rich with each passing year. There are some advantages to being powerful, but those are also slowly disappearing. In the future, the powerful will receive more credit and get paid marginally more. That’s where we’re headed as a species, especially if the Earth depopulates, as people are predicting will happen. Think about how much power the kings you learned about in history class had. That power is far less common nowadays.

Sean Combs is clearly a bad person. Nobody stood up to defend him when he was first accused of abuse. Then the video from the elevator with Cassie came out. The half-baked apology he gave made things even worse. Now he’s in jail, and nobody feels bad for him. It’s all because he focused on the wrong things. Diddy got too big for his britches, and he thought he could do whatever he wanted. His life is over early, and it’s all due to his misplaced priorities. There’s nobody to rat out, there’s no deal to cut. He ruined hundreds of lives and now he’s done for. It’s easy to avoid problems this big. All you need to do is be semi-normal. But there are still lessons to be learned from Diddy. As time goes on, you want to focus on creating a life that’s normal and balanced, not one that is based on extreme, media-driven views of “success”. This all makes life much simpler, as far as I’m concerned. You just need to be a decent at making and saving money. You can have a few kids, and maybe date casually, but you don’t need a million sex partners. Diddy’s obviously a psychopath, but it’s easy to fall into these traps when you’re young. It’s important not to.

Thanks for paying attention.
