Blog Posts Need To Have Variety, Even If You Write A Lot of Them

It takes a lot of blog posts to make money. Unless you’re doing something extremely lucrative like selling software or highly-polished digital products, this is the truth. Ads aren’t very lucrative, even with networks such as Mediavine. People don’t trust affiliate programs. There aren’t that many people paying for Medium. You will need to write a lot in order to make a dent.

There still needs to be variety in your blog posts.

Repetition and nicheing down are good ways to make money. When you write about the same topics.

I wrote this not only for readers, but also as a reminder to myself. I’ve written a few posts about being a digital nomad and living overseas. The same is true for posts about smoking and porn. I think I’ve done a good job of explaining myself and making different points in each article, but it’s important that I maintain some originality. This is part of the reason I decided to make this blog a broad self-improvement project.

Honing in on only one point would force me to take bigger risks with my content, and if things had gone badly I would have had more trouble making money. Going broad also allows me to be helpful in a variety of ways, and I can attract readers from a variety of backgrounds while finding my customer base.

Writing a lot without variety is probably the worst thing a blogger can do. It’s pretty much the number 1 rookie mistake made by bloggers who want to affiliate market. Who wants to open a website and see a wall of spammy articles? The same thing applies even if they aren’t directly monetized. You don’t want to make people feel like you’re spamming your agenda. I think it’s clear that I push people to become “location independent”, and that I think living abroad is more pleasant and fun than living in the United States. But I don’t want to focus too much on that. This is why I write about other topics, mainly within the realm of health and mental health. The variety brings in a multitude of readers, and hopefully the authenticity keeps them.

So if you’re blogging, make sure to plan your posts ahead of time, and make sure they have variety. You won’t regret it, even if they take longer to write. I learned from erotica that your niche and the quality of your work have a far bigger impact on your results than the amount of content you put out.
