People often talk about diversifying income and opportunities. Don’t put your eggs in one basket. That’s something almost everybody’s heard, especially if they plan on becoming famous or doing something in athletics. Generally speaking, kids with active parents are expected to try a wide range of activities, so that they have “a lot of options” as they get older. This is good advice because the average person has no chance of becoming extremely successful at anything unless they get the change to try everything. It also allows them to rest on their general knowledge in the case they are unable to capitalize on any given thing. That being said, I think applying the opposite philosophy to the world of business bears the most fruit.
Recently, I was thinking about how I was going to build my blog. As you can probably see, I have a decent portfolio of articles, and a few of them are beginning to rank on Google. Ranking on Google means I will be earning revenue from advertising, affiliate marketing, and my digital products. My newfound success is welcome, as I’ve worked hard for it. That being said, things are changing every day, and you want to diversify your income sources. In my case, this means starting a YouTube channel in order to earn advertising revenue. As a result, I’ve been debating when to stop writing and begin making YouTube videos. Is it too early to get traction with video content? Have I written enough articles to get ranked on Search Engines? How much written content should I create, when a Google update could take me out at any moment? Well, after a decent bit of thought, I’ve decided that if people totally stop reading articles, we have far bigger problems. So. That means that the only thing to do is to keep writing. I’m going to keep going until I have at least 50,000 page views per month. This is more than enough for me to live on if I base my estimates solely off of RPM numbers.
25,000 page views per month is a good amount of page views. Most people can’t drive that much traffic to themselves consistently. Additionally, most people don’t know how to drive this much *high value* traffic to themselves. You see, I’ve taken the time write about making money, and learn the art of SEO. These are high-value, high-paying skills. Most people wouldn’t apply these skills in the way I have. Most people would also try and start a YouTube channel for the sake of getting paid fast. Now that I have a traffic funnel, joining the YouTube partner program is one of the easiest things I could do. After 7 months of toiling away, most people would want to make a quick buck.
I’m not most people.
I’m going to keep writing until I’m pulling enough traffic to get into Amazon’s display network. That’s 5000 pageviews per day. I’m currently sitting at 30, and simply allowing my page to age should bring that number to 300. Now I just need to write 10x as many articles as I currently have posted. This is easy, but it will take consistency. Getting my income to $125/day through display ads will be super clutch, mainly because I live in a “3rd world country”. Being under 30, I’ll soon be one of the top businessmen in my country, and it will all have been because I was patient and kept focused. I’ll be a publishing industry expert by the time I’m done, rather than just another online guru. My time will have greater value than a former guru’s would, because I’ll be an industry expert rather than a snake oil salesman or unlicensed expert.
To even get to the point where I could understand SEO, blogging, and writing to the point where I could count on driving traffic to my articles, I had to focus hard. I had to focus on writing. Writing is a tough skill to master. You have to balance art, passion, and business if you want to have a hope of making a living. This is doubly true if you’re striking out on your own. I spent three years honing my craft as a writer before I started this blog. Now I can drive traffic. Soon I’ll be a king.
If I had diversified my attention too much, I would probably have done a decent job at getting traffic and making sales, but I also wouldn’t have as much credibility. I wouldn’t have as many SEO skills, and I would have had trouble defining my skillset to potential clients and employers. If I hadn’t focused on writing for three years, I would have no articles to optimize. Focusing on articles will bring me LOTS of traffic, and I’ll likely always be able to count on them to bring in at least some Ad revenue. Additionally, I’ll be able to add a digital product to the blog, or start a YouTube Channel, this time based on a foundation of real success. I don’t want to set expectations too high, but earning $1,000 per day is possible in such situations.
So, focus is the key to improving, and as such it’s the key to getting wealthy. When you focus on one or two skills, those skills compound, and before you know it you’re better at them than everybody else. This is the case for nearly everyone who works at something because aging is an inevitable reality of life. If you spread yourself too thin in adulthood, you will have no tangible field of expertise. So if you have talent, follow this blog and focus, and watch as my intense focus pays off.
