If you want to make money online, there’s one skillset I suggest learning. It’s a fairly vague and broad skill, but it applies whether you’re writing or making videos. If you’re looking to make money online, I suggest that you learn how to create content quickly. Yes, I know quality is important. But you should also be able to make content fast. As a matter of fact, it’s better to be able to put out articles fast, than it is to write the perfect article. I’m sure the same applies for video content, and here’s why.
You aren’t likely to go viral
This is the most important thing to remember. Going viral is pretty rare, even when you’re creating good content. What’s more common is building an audience through effort and consistency. If you monetize properly, you can get paid. If you browse through an app like YouTube or TikTok, you’re likely to find tons of creators who have been working for years.
The real value of online content comes from residual income
An asset, for the purposes of this article is something that either can be sold or something that makes you money in your sleep. Content can make you a living in your sleep if you have a lot of it and it gets traffic. That being said, your catalog does need to be of a certain size before you see yourself making real money, considering you’re a statistically average musician.
There’s often a baseline threshold for how much content you will need in order to get a certain amount of traffic
This is especially true if you’re depending on Google. The positive thing about Google is that the traffic you get is really good. Everyone clicking on a search result on Google is interested in seeing what they are seeing. The fact that they made a search, shows that they intend to learn about a topic. This is in contrast to recommendation engines like YouTube or TikTok which throw content at users. The downside to Google means that you have to wait people to make searches, and that there are only a couple guys at the top of each result. This means that traffic is limited, especially if you’re a one-man-army that’s just getting started. You will likely need to write 100 posts before you can even think of making real money blogging, if all you’re doing is writing posts. I’ve written 200 and still haven’t yet monetized, although this is due to the migration.
Creating lots of content fast allows you to diversify quickly
When I get somewhere between 250 and 400 articles, I expect to be able to enter into other business ventures. I enjoy writing and blogging, but I live in a poor country. I don’t want this stuff to be my only source of income. Diversification is key for someone in my shoes. It’s easier to diversify if you can create a lot of content. Just set a mental threshold, based either on content creation or income. When you reach that mental threshold, move on to the next venture.
You will get better as you go
This is something people never take into account when they’re being perfectionists. The power of practice. The more you practice, the better you get. Learn how to create content that is good enough at certain pace. That way, you can gain some skills and confidence. Big projects are for later in your career. In all honesty, entrepreneurship of any kind is hard when you’re young. If there are good jobs in your field of interest, you should apply.
If you want to make money online and are just getting started, work as fast as you can from a content perspective. Set reasonable goals for how much traffic you want to get for this content, and treat content creation like a full time, hourly job. Unless you’re lucky, or can reliably go viral for some reason, that’s what content creation is. Even then. It’s just that people going viral are getting paid better. No matter what you do, work hard and work fast. Get comfortable with your software. Create systems. Build digital assets. Do your best and don’t be dishonest, but don’t worry too much about quality. There’s probably somebody less competent than you writing articles right now.
