Monetize Your Skill Forever With A Blog

Everyone thinks that blogging is dead. TikTok and YouTube have all the traffic, and now the whole world wants to make video content. I think there’s some truth to this. As of 2023, social networks are actually growing, pretty much across the board. The rest of the economy is shrinking, and it seems as if consumer demand has dried up dramatically. This means a lot of people are looking to become famous. Whether it’s on Short Video, YouTube, or other forms of social media, we can look around and see “clout chasing” everywhere. It’s gotten to the point where people have gotten themselves arrested or injured in search of a viral hit. This new-age brain rot is depressing, but things will be fine if you can avoid getting sucked in. There’s a lot of value in following new trends, but there’s also immense power in sticking to the fundamentals. Blogging still works, and if you take the time to do it right, you can immortalize your thoughts on the internet and drive traffic to your cause and business until the end of time.

Although people talk about ChatGPT taking over search I think there will always be a purpose in having written articles posted to a website. People want to search, read, peruse and browse. The market may shrink with the emergence of TikTok, but I think there will always be money for those who take the time to write articles that are actually insightful. AI is great for creating strings, but it can’t think, and the data that it uses is recycled. If you’re right something that requires thought and comes alive, you’re going to be able to attract lots of attention while being hard to copy. Additionally, while people often talk about YouTube being lucrative, blogging pays far more. The average YouTube video RPM is around $2-$8 depending on the country. The average blog post RPM is north of $25. The main difference between YouTube and Blogging is that there is a higher chance of a YouTube video going viral and making you lots of money. Blogging is a more stable and guaranteed source of income. No given blog post is very likely to garner 1 million views, but you’re sure to be paid about 3x as much per view as with YouTube.

There’s still a place for video content. I’m filling this website with articles, but will soon be starting a YouTube channel. I will also be creating YouTube shorts and TikTok videos of the long-form content that I create. I will be doing the fundamentals, and making it such that I am able to earn money from my content in a lot of different ways. The video content I create will boost my written content and vice versa. But blogging will always be a core part of my business model, and I think it should be yours too, given the reasons stated in this article.

You don’t need a big blog to pad your wallet with online writing. You see, Google runs off of backlinks and authority. If you write in a particular subject, you’ll be able to make some money. The way things work, Google will push you towards the top, and if you do enough writing, you’ll be getting search traffic forever.

The thing about blog posts is they aren’t obviously monetizable. People aren’t buying solely off the basis of written content anymore. Most influencers have a visual presence, be it on YouTube or TikTok. Ad networks that pay properly have high minimum thresholds that require a lot of people to Gone are the days of Buzzfeed, where pretty much anyone could rack up thousands of views and make a good living online. You’re competing against the entire world nowadays. It’s going to take a decent bit of writing to earn a living, although it’s still possible. The downside to this is that you’re going to need to work. It’ll take a few months of posting, with little progress. But then, Google will likely pick up one of your articles. After that, it’ll pick up some others, and then the next ones after that. Eventually you’ll be getting lots of traffic, and you’ll have built up trust with your readers. That trust is what will allow you to make money, either through selling digital products or drawing people to a funnel in which you pitch them a service.

Blog posts stay up forever. You write them once, and 10 years later you might still be getting traffic. This means that no matter how successful or not your blog is, it will create recurring revenue in your life. This means that you will be able to focus on other tasks after you begin getting search traffic, meaning you don’t need to become a full-time blogger. You just need to make a few posts a year and after a little bit, you’ll have an extra marketing channel for your business. According to this survey, you need about 150 posts on your blog to begin earning a living. If you write 3 posts per month, you’ll be there in 5 years. Blogging is slow money because it takes a bunch of time to get the traffic necessary to earn a living, but once it begins to roll in it’s fairly stable. And even if it was, $2,000 per month to your bottom line through blogging 3 times per month for only a year is insane. If you earn $24,000 for 150 posts just one time, you’ll be earning more than $100 per post! Blogging is the most lucrative form of marketing you can engage in, and probably one of the most lucrative online activities overall. I think every one-man show or small business should have a blog. Blogs allow you to make money in your sleep.
