Life is short, but it’s the longest thing we’ll do, and it’s getting longer and longer as time passes. The world is getting richer. People across the globe are being pulled out of poverty and technology is advancing at a rapid pace. The immigration is a bit concentrated, with the epicenter being in the United States, but things are advancing rapidly. The global fertility rate has risen from 2.1 to 2.3, a 10% improvement if you believe the statistics. Most interestingly to myself, humanity is making rapid advances in medical technology. Increasingly, we are seeing people live to be older than 80, and for some groups the life expectancy is sitting around 83.
While life expectancy rises, we are also increasingly and unfortunately falling into degeneracy. Humanity is backsliding, in some ways. 2016–2022 saw the rise of a disgusting drug culture across the United States, one that spread outward a decent bit. When I spent time in Latin America, it became clear to me that they had been following our celebrity culture to a degree. People nowadays love to kill time and party, and if they don’t, they like spending time online.
So, the human race is lacking in gratitude. But why is that? In today’s world, you would think that people would be happier and more invested than ever. I blame the media, but that’s just an opinion. What’s weirdly noticeable is that our culture is anti-family, and as a result has become anti-friend and anti-social. The MeToo movement exposed a lot of real problems, but its effects have left men and women afraid of interacting with each other. Instead, we get holed up online, and the stuff we watch makes us devalue each other. Loneliness is at an all-time high, and it’s at the point where it’s considered to be a medical issue. Nobody intended for things to get this bad, but capitalism has brought us to this place. Where we value objects and emotional pacification over love and friendship.
Even in the face of all this, I see a lot of beauty in the world. We understand a lot of the world around us. We’re close to curing and fully preventing a lot of diseases such as cancer, and we’re starting to better understand what drives our inner psychology. If humanity can forge onward for just another 50 years, we might be living in a utopia. I think this is the meaning of life: to help humanity progress toward utopia. This is why there’s a bible, this is why we love receiving gifts and being helped, and it’s why the “pay it forward” mentality is universal.
Help the world, and you’ll see your life flourish. People will want to support you, and people go far for people they can rely on. A lot of the major skilled professions such as being an Engineer or Doctor involve helping the world. These people get paid well, drive nice cars, and live in beautiful houses because they help the world. I help the world by helping people optimize their lifestyles, but I’m also attending University of the People in the hopes of earning my bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. I would like to apply this degree to the medical field when I’m done. I think that if we use statistics properly, we can ceate a world in which there are fewer deaths as a result of disease. There are lots of ways to help the world, you don’t need to be a super genius to do it. Even being a good teacher, or building strong, stable homes does the trick. Just make sure to do your best.
