How To Decide on What Articles to Write for Your Blog

Choosing what to write about is one of the hardest things a blogger can do. You want to write about the right topics, ones that will interest your audience, and make you money. It’s hard knowing what to write about at first. There are so many options, and you don’t want to fail. But you have to make a choice, if you want to have a website. So how do you go about choosing what to write? I have a simple process that I think all bloggers and content creators can follow.

Make sure you have a niche, or several niches in mind

My niches are making money online, dating, being a digital nomad, and general life advice. It’s a bit broad, but I’m capable of writing a lot. You want to come up with some niches and themes for your blog. It could be anything: books, music, games. Just be aware that in order to get a lot of money from people, you have to solve big problems and satisfying big cravings. This usually means writing about health, wealth, romance, or being very entertaining and gaining huge fans. Knowing the state of writing today, it’s best to write high-value non-fiction if you’re looking to make a living.

Think about the utility of your niche- how can you make money?
Whatever you’re doing has to have a profit motive. There has to be something that you can sell at the end of the day. This is why blogs about music and movies underperform in current times. They just don’t sell anything. Or if they do sell something, it’s so low-value and low-conversion that it doesn’t have a hope of making money. You want to have a rough idea of the value of your niche before you start writing.

Come up with some article titles

Don’t think about keywords, or popularity when you’re doing this. Just come up with articles that cover topics within your niche. You can do this by creating spreadsheets, writing synopses, or coming up with a list of potential article titles. Whatever works for you. The point is to have an idea of what you want to write. When you have about 20-40 article titles, you have the basic foundation for a website.

Do Keyword Research

As far as I’m concerned, spending on SEO tools just for the sake of doing keyword research is not the right move. SEO tools are useful for learning about your backlink profile, tracking Google updates, getting a rough estimate of how well your competitors are doing. If you want to do proper research, use Google search trends. My strategy is to compare my potential keywords to other keywords that I know are popular, “Barack Obama” for example. I don’t need my keyword to be as popular as “Barack Obama”, but I want to make sure there’s some interest. You can also use search trends to spy on your competitors and see if any of their articles were flops.

Write what you think will be popular first

Traffic is the lifeblood of any online business. If you write more, you get more traffic. So logically it makes sense to publish the articles that you think will do the best first. The sooner you get traffic, the sooner you get money, feedback, and data. You’ll know what content does well, and what doesn’t. I learned that make money online content and life coaching topics work for me. I learned this by going broad, and starting my publishing journey on social media. I wrote basic articles about quitting weed and being a digital nomad and found my direction from there.

You’ll have a better idea of what you want to do over time, so just stay consistent

This is really the key. The more you write, the more you will know what you enjoy writing about. So just stick to the plan and stay consistent. One article will lead to the next. Just don’t make a niche website. There’s too much content out there for you to make a decent living with a niche site anymore. You need a lot of writing in order to make a living from your content. So it’s best to pick a broad niche for your blog and just start writing.

Wild card: come up with the product first, then write promote it

This is the era of the video essay, and also the era of AI. The world is quickly learning that it’s highly possible to produce content that is both good and entertaining very cheaply. This means that if you have an idea for a product, all you need to do is create the marketing infrastructure around it. In today’s world, this means writing blogs and creating YouTube videos. The advantage you have in today’s world is that all the traffic you get will be targeted, if you write about subjects which relate to your product. This will increase your conversion rates. You could easily find yourself making a lot of money with very little traffic!

Don’t be daunted if you’re struggling to figure out what to blog about. Writing isn’t easy, and you’re in the same boat as pretty much everyone else. But the first and most important thing to do is to get started. Even if your stuff sucks, you want to get started. If you don’t get started, you won’t have any content to begin with and you’ll never reach a point of comfort. So, pick a general niche that you’re both interested in a think will make you money and follow the process. The best time to publish is now.

Thanks for paying attention.
